CANTESCO® Dye Penetrant Inspection - Visible Dye Penetrant - Non-Destructive Testing

Red dye, solvent removable penetrant indicates surface flaws against white developer
powder background. No chlorinated solvents, meets requirements of ASME section V
halogen and chloride content requirements. It is recommended that both ambient and
substrate temperatures are between 40°F (4°C) and 125°F (52°C) for dye penetrant
inspection.

What is Visible Dye Penetrant and how it is used in welding inspections?

Visible dye penetrant is a type of liquid penetrant used in welding inspections. It consists of a brightly colored dye solution that is applied to the surface of a weld or material being tested. The dye penetrates into surface defects such as cracks or pores. After a sufficient amount of time, excess dye is removed from the surface.

Inspectors then use a developer, as previously described, which draws the dye out from the defects, making them visible against a contrasting background. This makes it easier for inspectors to detect and evaluate any flaws in the weld or material. In simple terms, visible dye penetrant helps make welding defects easier to see during inspections by coloring them brightly against a contrasting background.
